It’s no secret that Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons cemented its legacy as one of the most popular titles on the original Switch console, and it looks like the company is giving it an upgrade for its newer Switch 2 system. The company recently announced that the game will receive a brand-new edition and a massive free update, both launching on January 15.
Titled Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, the game will come with several enhancements including improved visuals, 4K resolution in TV mode, as well as mouse controls with the right Joy-Con 2 controller. Players can also use the system’s built-in microphone for an in-game megaphone to locate residents, in addition to online play for up to 12 players. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be available for $64.99 MSRP, and current owners of the original Switch game can purchase a paid upgrade pack for $4.99 MSRP.
Meanwhile, the game’s upcoming update introduces new experiences, such as new in-game locations, expanded home storage features, and Nintendo Switch Online members will gain an exclusive feature called Slumber Island which allows them to design and save up to three collaborative islands. Finally, the update also features new collaborations with classic Nintendo items, new LEGO items, and support for select The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon series amiibo.
