Update 22 December: We’re into the last few days before Christmas now, but Epic’s free game lineup shows no sign of slowing down.
We’ll have Game 6 in a matter of hours, and then it’ll just keep on trucking, so we’re still playing free games while Santa comes down the chimney.
Update 21 December: We have just got the Game 5 drop, and it is Sorry We’re Closed, which is described as “a nostalgic, single-player survival horror game with rich lore, deep characters and multiple endings. Fight in first person with demonic weapons. Open your Third Eye to see between worlds, uncover secrets and solve puzzles.”
Akupura Games is the publisher behind it, and it’s another title that retails around the $25 mark. It’s another left-field giveaway, and do be aware it is rated at 18+.

For the last few years, I have done good video game journalistic business covering the annual Epic Games Store end-of-year giveaway. For the last few weeks of December into early January, the tradition is now that we get a free game gifted to us by the folks at EGS, and it’s turned into a bit of a competition to work out what is coming next, as each is a mystery, right up until it is announced.
Sometimes we get clues, sometimes we hear rumors – this year though, in an event akin to telling us that Santa is not real, an entire giveaway list has been revealed by the fun police, spoiling the joy of the event for all.
So here it is…
Kidding. We will show you what the list says a little further on, so you have a chance to avoid it if you want, but first we have the first of the mega games available to us already to kick the event off
Epic Games Store giveaway 2025
To tie in with The Game Awards, Epic Games Store is handing out copies of the wizard-’em-up Hogwarts Legacy, which, even though it is a couple of years old now, is still a lot of fun and well worth adding to your library. Plus, if you play Fortnite for your sins as well, clocking up a couple of hours of gameplay in old Hoggers will unlock an exclusive back bling for you.
When is the next free game in the Epic Giveaway?
The next game in the giveaway will be with us on December 22 (Monday), and as yet it remains a mystery since the leak (which you’ll find below) was swiftly debunked following Hogwarts Legacy.
Epic Games Store Giveaway leaked list
Whether you believe leakers do good work or not (spoiler: I don’t like ’em), the chase for internet clout is real. The following list has been leaked and then, in theory, debunked already, but in truth, nobody knows how accurate, if at all, this list is. Let’s take a look at what’s circulating before digging a little deeper.
Hogwarts Legacy – December 11 – Confirmed- Jurassic World: Evolution 2 – December 18 – Incorrect
- Desperados 3 – December 19
- Total War: Warhammer – December 20
- Tropico 5 – December 21
- Chicken Police – Paint it Red! – December 22
- Loop Hero – December 23
- Lego Batman – December 24
- Commander Keane – December 25
- Farming Simulator 2022 – December 26
- Slime Rancher 2 – December 27
- Terraria – December 28
- Detroit: Become Human – December 29
- Mortal Kombat 11 – December 30
- Red Dead Redemption 2 – December 31
That’s a pretty exciting list of giveaways, but it doesn’t quite ring true. Commander Keen – a retro classic for December 25th? Hmm, except it isn’t on the Epic Games Store. Nor is Terraria, which is earmarked for the 28th.
So I am not buying it. Not yet. I may change my mind if we get dinosaurs on Thursday. The leak originated from Chinese social media, so who knows, but there would need to be some unusual circumstances for it to be true.
Either way, bookmark this page, and we will update as the event unfolds. Maybe there is still some excitement left this holiday season.
How to Claim the Epic Games Store’s Free Daily Games
As with the weekly Epic Games Store giveways, claiming one of these freebies is a pretty simple process. Here’s what to do.
- First, create an Epic Games Store account if you’ve not already got one. You can do that on the Epic Games Store website or by downloading the Epic Games Store launcher from the site.
- Now go to the web store or launcher and go down to Free Games.
- Click on the game you want, and you should see a big blue button that says Get. If it says Buy Now, you’re on the wrong page or too late for the giveaway.
- Click on Get, go through with the checkout (you won’t be charged), and the game is yours to keep.
