We may be getting League of Legends 2 before Grand Theft Auto 6

League of Legends 2 could finally be a thing, according to leakers.

Riot’s infamous MOBA is old at this point. Well, old in gaming years, considering esports pros retire at 30 years old. League of Legends came out in 2009, and it’s a bit dated at this point. Executive Producer Paul Bellezza even stated recently that the game’s “tech and tools need some work.” (But instead, here’s a winter map.)

I almost wrote that the game is about six years old, but have realized (with horror) that it’s actually 16 years old. Not that this is old IRL, right?? Throughout this time, League of Legends has experienced some frustrating bugs and performance issues, leading to its massive fanbase to beg Riot for a new game.

Now, a leak claims we could be getting League of Legends 2 after all.

League of Legends 2 when??

A now-deleted statement from a leaker going by Summoner Park stated that we are apparently getting League of Legends 2 in the latter half of 2026. According to Summoner Park, the sequel will stay true to League at its core but will have many technical and gameplay-related upgrades.

“Not only will it remove legacy code,” Park wrote, but “there’s a possibility that core game content will be revamped.”

This will allegedly include champion ability overhauls, including large-scale optimization and plenty of balancing. Is Riot really going to optimize and balance over 170 champions??

League of Legends 2 may not be coming at all, or it may be coming with a bit less of a dramatic twist. We could realistically see some tech and performance upgrades, although a champion roster overhaul seems insane.

Previous leaks have pointed out a second League of Legends coming out in 2025, but those insiders claim this effort was delayed due to layoffs. This would coincide with Riot previously claiming that 2025 would “change League forever.”

While some players are excited at the idea of an upgraded League of Legends experience, some are wondering if it’ll end up like Overwatch 2, which made big promises but was ultimately almost identical to the first one.
