Brian d’Arcy James says he’s ‘not up to snuff’ after revealing failed audition for Hazbin Hotel

In a recent interview with CBR, Brian d’Arcy James was asked if he felt like joining Hazbin Hotel’s voice cast, which features multiple Broadway actors. The actor responded by revealing that he had auditioned for a part. He said, “I auditioned for it, didn’t get it. Guess I’m not up to snuff. How about that, Hazbin Hotel?”

The first two seasons of Hazbin Hotel are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Season 1 premiered on January 19, 2024, and ran for eight episodes until February 2, 2024. Meanwhile, Season 2 premiered on October 29, 2025, and concluded on November 19, 2025. The series’s success also spawned a spin-off, Helluva Boss, which takes place in the same fictional universe and revolves around a different cast of characters.

A third and fourth season of Hazbin Hotel are in development. While they don’t have official release dates, they do have estimated release windows. Speaking to Collider, showrunner Vivienne Medrano said that fans will have “a similar wait” for Season 3 as Seasons 1 and 2, while Season 4 may come out quicker than Season 3 since both were greenlit simultaneously. Accordingly, based on Medrano’s comments, Season 3 could arrive sometime in 2027, while Season 4 could drop by 2028.

Plot details for Season 3 and Season 4 are currently unknown. However, Medrano teased in a Polygon interview that the third season will have a lot of romance. She said, “I am excited for people to see a season that is really emotional, in a lot of ways. It’s the most romantic season, which I love as a romance writer. I just love the dramatic, the angst, the twists and turns of Season 3.”
