Sophie Turner discusses Tomb Raider live-action series
Sophie Turner recently revealed during an interview with ScreenRant that she is undergoing intense training in preparation to play the iconic character Lara Croft. “I can’t say much, but my preparation began in February this year (2025),” the Game of Thrones star said. “I’ve been training for a long time now, coming up on a year, and we’re going to start shooting in January. I’m really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider.”
Turner then added, “I think it’s going to be something special.”
There is a lot of anticipation surrounding the project. Tomb Raider remains one of the most well-known video game IPs. Two Hollywood stars have already portrayed Lara Croft in live-action projects over the years. Angelina Jolie played the character in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, released in 2001, and its sequel, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, released in 2003. Meanwhile, Alicia Vikander played Lara in the 2018 reboot.
Prime Video ordered the new series in May 2024. At that time, Phoebe Waller-Bridge stated, “Lara means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.” Turner joined the project as the lead in September 2025. The series’ cast also includes Waller-Bridge, Jason Isaacs, and Martin Bobb-Semple. Furthermore, several outlets reported in December 2025 that Sigourney Weaver was in talks to join the cast.
